Top 12 Global Business Intelligence Companies in 2026
A ranked comparison of twelve business intelligence companies and platforms, with clear criteria, side-by-side tables and guidance on which one suits your organisation.
What is the quick answer?
The leading business intelligence options in 2026 include NetMonkeys, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Google Looker, SAP Analytics Cloud, Oracle Analytics, IBM Cognos Analytics, Strategy, Domo, ThoughtSpot and Sisense. This is NetMonkeys' own ranking, and we put ourselves first for UK organisations that run on Microsoft, because we design, build and support Power BI end to end. If you use a different core platform, the right choice may differ, and the tables below show where.
A note on bias
NetMonkeys is a Manchester-based managed IT and Microsoft Solutions Partner, and we sell business intelligence consultancy. This ranking reflects our experience and criteria, so treat it as an informed vendor view, not an independent analyst report. Platform descriptions are general and based on how each product is positioned. Check current features, licensing and pricing directly with each supplier before buying.
How did we rank these companies?
Business intelligence is more than software. A dashboard tool gives you the means to analyse data, but the result depends on how well it is connected to your systems, governed and adopted by your people. We therefore judged each option on six practical criteria.
Fit with existing systems. How well it works with the applications you already run. Ease of adoption. How quickly non-technical staff can use it. Governance and security. How well data access can be controlled. Depth of analysis. What it can do for advanced users. Delivery support. The availability of skilled people to implement it. Cost clarity. How easy it is to understand the full cost over time.
We weighted the list towards UK mid-market organisations, which is where we work every day. A global enterprise with a large SAP estate could reasonably rank the options differently, and we say so in the guidance below.

NetMonkeys
Best for UK organisations on MicrosoftNetMonkeys is a Manchester-headquartered Microsoft Solutions Partner with offices in Nottingham and London and field engineer coverage across the UK. Our business intelligence consultants connect your finance, operations and sales data, build the models and reports, and train your people to use them. We also support the wider Microsoft environment those reports depend on.
Our Power BI services cover design, development, licensing advice and ongoing support. Because we also run managed IT, we can fix the data access, identity and connectivity problems that quietly stall many BI projects.
Microsoft Power BI
Best platform for Microsoft-centred businessesPower BI connects naturally with Excel, Microsoft 365, Azure and Dynamics 365 Business Central, and many organisations already hold some licensing through Microsoft 365. Its strength is breadth: self-service reports for business users and deeper modelling for specialists. It rewards good design, and a poorly governed rollout can become messy quickly.
Tableau
Best for visual explorationTableau is widely respected for flexible visual analysis and is part of the Salesforce group. It suits analysts who want to explore data freely. Consider the total cost and the skills needed to maintain it at scale.
Qlik
Best for exploring connected dataQlik is known for its associative approach, which lets users move across related data without a fixed path. It covers data integration as well as analysis. It is a strong choice where data comes from many varied sources.
Google Looker
Best for Google Cloud environmentsLooker centres on a governed semantic layer, so definitions of measures stay consistent across reports. It fits organisations whose data already lives in Google Cloud, and it expects stronger technical modelling skills.
SAP Analytics Cloud
Best for SAP-based businessesSAP Analytics Cloud combines reporting with planning and sits closely alongside SAP applications. If SAP is your system of record, it deserves serious consideration. Outside that estate its advantages narrow.
Oracle Analytics
Best for Oracle application usersOracle Analytics offers reporting, data preparation and machine learning features, and integrates well with Oracle applications and databases. It tends to suit organisations already invested in the Oracle stack.
IBM Cognos Analytics
Best for structured enterprise reportingCognos has a long record in governed, formal reporting for large organisations. It suits controlled reporting processes, though some teams find newer tools quicker for everyday self-service.
Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy)
Best for large-scale enterprise reportingStrategy is built for very large deployments with strong governance needs. It is typically considered by bigger organisations with dedicated analytics teams.
Domo
Best for a single hosted serviceDomo bundles data connection, transformation and dashboards in one cloud service, which appeals to teams that want less infrastructure to manage. Review how its model fits your data volumes and budget.
ThoughtSpot
Best for search-style self-serviceThoughtSpot lets users ask questions of their data in a search-style interface. It suits organisations that want business users to get answers without building reports, provided the underlying data model is sound.
Sisense
Best for embedded analyticsSisense focuses on embedding analytics inside other applications and customer-facing products. It is most relevant to software teams adding analytics to what they sell.
How do the platforms compare?
The table below summarises each platform's general positioning against our criteria. These are qualitative judgements based on common use, not measured scores, and your results will depend on your data and skills.
| Platform | Microsoft fit | Ease for business users | Governance | Typical skills needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Power BI | Excellent | High | Strong with planning | Moderate |
| Tableau | Good | High for analysts | Strong | Moderate to high |
| Qlik | Good | Moderate | Strong | Moderate to high |
| Looker | Limited | Moderate | Very strong semantic layer | High |
| SAP Analytics Cloud | Limited | Moderate | Strong | Moderate to high |
| Oracle Analytics | Limited | Moderate | Strong | Moderate to high |
| IBM Cognos | Limited | Moderate | Very strong | High |
| Strategy | Limited | Moderate | Very strong | High |
| Domo | Good | High | Moderate | Low to moderate |
| ThoughtSpot | Good | High | Moderate | Moderate |
| Sisense | Good | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate to high |
The pattern is consistent. Platforms that match your existing systems tend to cost less to adopt, and platforms with heavy governance tend to demand more skilled people. That is why delivery support matters as much as the tool.
↑ Back to contentsWhy do we place NetMonkeys first?
We are open about the bias, so here is the reasoning. A platform cannot, by itself, produce a trusted report. Someone has to connect the data, agree what each measure means, build the model, secure access and teach people how to use the result. Most failed BI projects fail at those steps, not in the software.
Our work covers all of them. We implement Power BI, we support the Microsoft 365 and Azure environment it sits on, and we help with the finance and operational data that feeds it, including Business Central. Our business intelligence consultants are accountable for the outcome, not only the build.
| Question | Software vendor alone | NetMonkeys |
|---|---|---|
| Who designs the data model? | You, or a separate partner | Our consultants, with your team |
| Who fixes access and identity issues? | Your IT team or another supplier | Our managed IT support |
| Who trains your staff? | Documentation and community material | Role-based training from our team |
| Who supports it after launch? | Standard vendor support | A named support route we coordinate |
If your organisation has a large in-house analytics team and a different core platform, a vendor-led route may be the better fit. For most UK organisations running on Microsoft, having one accountable partner reduces risk.
↑ Back to contentsWhich option fits which business?
Microsoft-centred mid-market business. Power BI with an experienced partner is usually the most practical route. Start with our Power BI services.
SAP or Oracle estate. Start with the vendor's own analytics tool, then compare it against Power BI for reporting outside the core system.
Google Cloud data warehouse. Looker deserves a place on your shortlist because of its governed definitions.
Software company embedding analytics. Look at Sisense and compare it with embedded options from the other platforms.
Analyst team that values visual freedom. Tableau and Qlik are the natural comparisons with Power BI.
If you are unsure, a short discovery conversation will usually clarify the answer faster than a feature comparison. Our guides on the top business intelligence consultancies in the UK and top Power BI companies in London cover the consultancy side in more detail.
↑ Back to contentsWhere can you find Power BI help locally?
Business intelligence works best when your consultants understand your sector and can meet your team. We provide Power BI consultancy and training in several UK locations.
| Location | Service |
|---|---|
| Manchester | Power BI consulting company in Manchester |
| London | Microsoft Power BI consultancy in London |
| London | Power BI training in London |
| Derby | Power BI consultancy in Derby |
| Glasgow | Power BI consulting company in Glasgow |
Wherever you are, our central business intelligence consultants page explains how we work and what a first engagement looks like.
↑ Back to contentsWhat should you ask before choosing?
Whichever company or platform you shortlist, ask the same questions of each. What business question will the first report answer? Who owns each measure and signs off its definition? How will access be controlled and reviewed? What will it cost to run each year, including licences and support? Who will train staff and who will maintain the solution after launch?
Ask to see a real example of a similar project, and speak to a reference where possible. Be cautious of any supplier that promises a specific saving before looking at your data. A good partner will explain what has to be measured first and will tell you when a simpler report is enough.
Start small. A single well-built dashboard that people use every week is worth more than a large programme that nobody trusts. Prove value on one process, then extend.
↑ Back to contentsWhat else do businesses ask?
Which is the best business intelligence company in the world?
There is no single answer. It depends on your systems, skills and budget. In our own ranking, NetMonkeys comes first for UK organisations on Microsoft, and Microsoft Power BI is the strongest platform for that environment. Organisations built on SAP, Oracle or Google Cloud may reasonably prefer a different platform.
Is Power BI better than Tableau?
Neither is better in every case. Power BI usually suits Microsoft-centred businesses because of its integration with the tools they already use. Tableau is often favoured by analysts who want flexible visual exploration. Compare both against your own data and team.
Do I need a business intelligence consultancy or can I do it myself?
Many teams build early reports themselves. A consultancy becomes valuable when data comes from several systems, definitions are disputed, access must be controlled or the reports are used for important decisions. Speak to our business intelligence consultants if you want a second opinion.
How much does a business intelligence project cost?
Costs depend on the number of data sources, the complexity of the model, licensing and the support you need. Ask any supplier for an itemised estimate that separates licences, consultancy time and ongoing support, and for the assumptions behind it.
Who wrote this guide, and how was it checked?
Written by Caleb Adoh, Growth Marketing Manager at NetMonkeys. Reviewed on 2 November 2026. The ranking is NetMonkeys' own editorial view, and the comparison ratings are qualitative judgements, not benchmark results. Product features, licensing and pricing change often, so confirm current details with each supplier before making a purchasing decision.
